We were due to depart from Amsterdam at 15.45. The plane was initially delayed for half an hour because of a fuel spillage on the tarmac near to the aircraft. When this was dealt with a further two hour delay ensued because one the aircraft’s fuel tanks was contaminated which required emptying the tank and then refilling it. We finally departed from Amsterdam at 17.30. After a long and restless ‘night’ of about ten hours flying we finally arrived at Shanghai at 09.45. After going through immigration we went to collect our bags. Alas Shoni Vaknin’s bag did not appear. After making enquiries it transpired that it had been left at Amsterdam and they assured us that it would be delivered to the hotel the next morning. Mrs. Diehl managed to get a an overnight pack from the airport authorities for Shoni.

We then met our tour guide, Jamie, who then took us on a guided tour of Shanghai. We also went to the viewing platform of the Jinmao Hyatt Hotel for a splendid view of the city. Leaving the air-conditioned coach was quite as we hit 36oC and high humidity. The final part of the afternoon tour was lunch in a traditional Chinese restaurant. We then checked into the Baolong Hotel.

Hi everyone. Shame about the delays and baggage left at Amsterdam. Sounds like you're having fun. Hope no one suffered from vertigo while you were on the viewing platform. Looking forward to more news and lots of pics!
Glad to hear you all arrived eventually but sorry to hear about Shoni's luggage. Another excuse to go shopping!
It was great to see the photos and look forward to seeing more of your adventures. We are thinking about you all trying to keep cool in the air conditioning.
We are having fun too, mowing the lawn and trying to keep warm! Enjoy!
